I just received a call from the producer of the Take a Stand radio show, asking me to answer few questions on air for Adam McManus – in 7 minutes!
He wanted to talk about a USA Today article on working moms and whether they should stay home. I barely had time to send the kids out with drinks and a water hose, skim the article and then we were on!
That was 30 minutes ago and I’ve had my 10 minutes of world fame, but my heart is still pounding. I’m not exactly sure what he asked or how I answered, but my friends are assuring me that I sounded very unruffled and articulate. That’s what friends are for.
Here’s what I told hubby on googletalk as I hung up:
i was terrified for the first few minutes, then my brain just listened helplessly as my mouth took over. I was silently begging my mouth not to do anything stupid.i felt like bill murray and what’s-his-face in What About Bob during the tv interview. Bob was my mouth and what’s-his-face was my brain.
See? And I still can’t think of what’s-his-face’s name.
Tarantulas hardly ruffle me, but live radio interviews send me into a tizzy.

Oh my goodness, I went to Adam McManus’ site and HE IS TERRIFIC!! A talkshow host like that wouldn’t survive a day in NY.
It is great that you were chosen to be on! Didn’t any of your friends record it? Wish I could hear it… maybe you could upload it if someone got a recording?
Congrats, and thanks for standing up for Stay-At-Home Moms!
P.S. Do you have a Texan drawl? lol

Oh wow, Kim…I’m so glad you had that opportunity. I would love to hear it too! (And put it on my blog!)
I honestly can’t believe the article says there is “a debate over which is better for a child…mom at home or at work.”
It is frightening that a whole society of people are actually questioning that!

Kim….
I believe Bill Murray’s co-star was Richard Dreyfuss, I’m thinking…..
And wow, how can we listen? If someone like that called me up and asked me to do that I’d have to defer to my articulate and knowlegeable husband….I do NOT do impromptu!
I can live without the tarantula pictures….
I think I will be able to sleep tonight!

I’d love to hear the show!

Kim, I bet you did a wonderful job! You are quite articulate, you know, and this was a God-honoring opportunity. Sometimes, radio programs (such as Kevin Swanson) and radio stations have archives you can download. If you find it, please let us know!

Oh, BTW, Richard Dreyfuss. (I am not star-struck, just the Trivia Queen. I get Jeopardy answers right in “worldly” categories because I can hear a fact once and remember it forever.)

Kim…surely you have a recording????

Richard Dreyfuss. Not knowing names like that will drive me crazy for days. Hope you’re not the same.:)

That’s really exciting! And you know what, you saved the host’s tail, by being available on such short notice.
How did he find you, anyway?

I guess I should have mentioned that we know Adam and his wife – a little. We met them recently at a social event.
I was very surprised at the call, but not at all worried about Adam. He’s a good guy. He’s on our side.
I was just worried I would put my foot in my mouth with 50,000 people listening, and me without a backspace or delete key.

Congratulations! You survived! I would have been the same way…I get nervous making phone calls for interviews…which reminds me. I have to try someone back today.

that is so amazing! What a great opportunity! You should ask for a transcript for those of us who didn’t get to hear it!

Oh yes, love those “What about Bob?” moments. Love that movie.
Congratulations!

Richard Dreyfuss’ character is Dr. Marvin. Dr. Leo Marvin.
We quote from that movie regularly around here.
